How the service area works
You describe where you work in plain terms: miles around a town, a list of counties and cities, or exact ZIP codes. Ansa turns that into a list of ZIP codes. On a call, Sarah asks for the job address, including the ZIP code, and checks it against that list as soon as she has it. A booking at a ZIP code outside the list is refused even if the conversation gets that far.
The same setting gives Sarah a short description of your area, so when a caller asks where you work, what she says matches what she enforces. Saved changes apply on Sarah's next call.
Setting it
Open Profile
Find the Service arearow. It shows a short summary, like "25 miles around Greenwood, IN", or "Not set yet". Click Edit on it to open the editor.
Pick one way to draw it
Choose Radius, Counties & cities or ZIP codes. You use one at a time.
Check the covered ZIP codes
The editor shows how many ZIP codes are covered. Click Show covered ZIP codesto see the list. With Radius or Counties & cities you can leave some out there.
Click Save service area
You'll see "Service area saved."
Radius, places or ZIP codes
Radius: search a city or ZIP code as the center point and set the miles, from 1 to 150. Add up to 5 center points if you work out of more than one town.
Counties & cities: search and add named places, up to 25. Good when your area follows county lines rather than distance.
ZIP codes: paste an exact list of 5-digit ZIP codes, one per line or separated by commas, up to 2,000. Use this when you already know exactly where you go.
If a center point, place or ZIP code isn't in the ZIP code dataset, the editor warns you and skips it. Check the warnings before you save.
Leaving out ZIP codes
A radius often reaches somewhere you don't want to drive, like across a river or into a city you don't serve. With Radius or Counties & cities, click a ZIP code in the covered list to exclude it. You can exclude up to 500. The summary on Profile shows how many are excluded. With ZIP codes there's nothing to exclude: just leave the ZIP off your list.
Leaving it empty
If you save a service area that covers no ZIP codes, there is no limit at all: callers from anywhere are offered a booking. The editor asks you to confirm first, with Save with no gate or Keep editing.
Callers outside your area
Callers outside your service area aren't offered a booking. Sarah tells them politely that the address is outside the area you cover. Where it makes sense, she takes their details as a callback request so you can decide yourself, and that reaches you like any other message.
The check is done on the ZIP code of the job address, not on where the caller is phoning from. A caller with an out-of-town number who needs work at an address inside your area can still book.
Troubleshooting
Sarah turned away a caller I would have taken.
Open Profile → Service areaand check the covered list for that caller's ZIP code. It may be outside the radius or excluded. Add it, save, and call the customer back. The call and its address are on the Calls page.
Sarah booked a job outside my area.
Check whether your service area is empty (the row says Not set yet). If it is set, read the call transcript to see which ZIP code the caller gave, and check it against your covered list. If the ZIP was outside the list, email us the call.
The covered list is missing ZIP codes I serve.
Open Show covered ZIP codesand look for what's missing. Add the county as well as the city, widen the radius, or switch to ZIP codes and paste the exact list you want.
