Forwarding your business line without missing a call
Call forwarding is the one step where a mistake is invisible: the phone simply stops ringing somewhere, and nobody tells you. This is the order that avoids that.
Forward on no-answer first, not everything
Start with conditional forwarding — calls come to you, and only roll over when you do not pick up. You keep answering the calls you want, and the ones you would have missed get answered instead of going to voicemail. Unconditional forwarding is a bigger change and worth making later, deliberately, not on day one.
Test it from a phone that is not yours
Carriers often treat a call from your own handset differently, so a test from your own phone can succeed while real customers still get voicemail. Borrow a phone, or ask someone to ring you, and let it go unanswered for the full ring cycle.
Check what the caller hears before the pickup
Forwarding adds a few seconds of ringing before the AI answers. That is normal, but it is worth hearing once so you know what your customers experience — and so you can tell the difference between "working as intended" and "something is wrong".
Know how to undo it
Write down the cancel code for your carrier before you start. Forwarding is trivially reversible, but only if you have the code to hand — and knowing you can undo it in ten seconds makes the whole thing feel less like a commitment.
